Kenfied URL Shortener – Ken.tl

September 2, 2010

You must have seen the shortened URL of Kenfied.com being posted on my Twitter and other sites.

Well, Ken.tl is an URL shortening service that takes long web addresses and squeezes them into fewer characters to make a shortened link that is easier to tweet or share.

Ken.tl was a domain on which this blog was hosted, until I came up with a creative idea and concept for the new direction of my blog. The blog was then switched to Kenfied.com with new design, layout and relatively new content. But since then (mid-2009), the domain was left unused.

Now that almost every site is coming up with their own URL shortener, I guess I’ll have one too! What a way to make use of an left-out domain, right?

Why not use one of the widely known public URL shorteners that are already offering good support, UI and API you might ask. Well, the main purpose of Ken.tl is the same reason why other broad networks have their own URL shorteners:

  • Stability : To ensure better stability and uptime. The popular services might be hosted better than mine, but hey, I don’t have anyone to blame if my service is down!
  • Security : Protecting visitors from seeing nasty sites! Pubic services are always vulnerable to hackers, spammers and tons of psychos. Not only this service ensures Ad-free environment, it also has strengthened security.

However, to be able to maintain the quality as mentioned above, this service is currently available for my personal use, but not for broader public usage.
